How it's made
The Journey of a Handcrafted Masterpiece:
The Gathering of Nature's Finest:
Raw Materials
Our story begins with the careful selection of premium materials.
Our wool is sourced from high-altitude sheep, prized for softness, resilience, and with a natural luster. Our Bamboo Silk is luxurious, velvety soft and hypoallergenic, with a shimmering elegance for that touch of luxury and depth.
These raw materials are then meticulously cleaned and prepared, ready to be transformed into yarn.
The Art of Colour:
Dyed to Perfection
The dyeing process is a delicate dance between tradition and artistry. We use natural and eco-friendly dyes, carefully chosen to achieve vibrant, long-lasting colours and tones.
The wool and silk are immersed in these dyes, absorbing the rich hues that will define the rug's character. This process requires a keen eye for detail and years of experience to ensure consistent and beautiful results.
Where the Magic Begins:
The Weaver's Loom
The heart of our rug-making process lies in the hands of our skilled weavers and their humble tool, a traditional loom.
Meticulously threading the warp and weft to create the foundation of the rug. This intricate process requires immense patience and precision, as each thread is carefully placed to ensure the rug's strength and durability.
For that Pop of Life:
The Tufting Process
For our tufted rugs, the design is brought to life using specialised tufting tools. Skilled artisans precisely follow the design outline, piercing tufts of yarn into the cotton backing fabric.
Tufting requires immense dexterity and control, each tuft is carefully placed to create the desired design, texture and density.
The artistry lies in the transferance of a design into a three-dimensional masterpiece.
For Refinement and Durability:
Edge Binding
Once the tufting is complete, the edges of the rug are carefully hand-bound to create a seamless and durable border.
This crucial step not only adds a refined finish, but also protects the rug from fraying and unravelling, ensuring longevity.
Adding Strength and Stability:
Backing support
A thin sheet of fabric and a layer of glue is applied to the reverse of the rug, strengthening the body and securing the tufts for added stability.
This process maintains the shape and prevents shedding, even with years of use. The glue is carefully applied and allowed to naturally air dry, creating a strong and resilient backing.
A Work of Art Complete:
Final Touches
The final stage involves detailed inspections and finishing for true finess.
Our artisans carefully trim and shear the rug pile to achieve the desired height, texture and evenness. The rug is then thoroughly cleaned to remove any loose fibers and inspected one last time to ensure it meets our exacting standards.
